Cathartes Private Investments, Burying Overhead Utilities

Concord Square has provided development consulting services to Cathartes Private Investments since June, 2004 on this transit-oriented development which includes 146 units of market rate housing, and is nearing completion. Canyon Johnson Urban Fund II (Magic Johnson’s urban investment fund) is the financial partner on this development, which is Magic’s first real estate development in the Northeast.

Angus Jennings and Concord Square were retained to manage the highly complex process of placing cable, phone and electric utilities underground for the eleven abutting property owners on Brighton, Perkins and Caldwell Streets. Since before construction began in the summer of 2006, this has involved lengthy and sometimes quite difficult negotiations with the property owners, obtaining easements from each, coordination with NStar, Verizon and Comcast. Concord Square also provided direct oversight and management of the actual site work, including hiring the electrician and excavator, coordinating inspections with the City of Boston, filing construction inspection reports with the client, and resolving issues in the field as they arose.
